Dear Engineering Students,
I am Shankar, did my M.Tech in Power and Control from IIT Kanpur, B.Tech from JNTU Kakinada Campus and Diploma from Andhra Polytechnic Kakinada.
I worked in General Electric, Hyderabad for 6 years in the field of renewable energy sources. At present, delivering number of lectures in the field of power electronics (since 2007) and delivered lectures in Control systems as well (in the past) especially for GATE/ESE/PSUs. This blog is to explore the various opportunities for electrical engineering students especially preparing for competitive exams. NPSC 2014

Dear All,
Dr. Praveen Tripathy is my friend when I was in IIT Kanpur, he is working professor  IIT Guwahati at present and also he is the convener of NPSC-2014. He send me the following message to convey my students.

"The 18th National power systems conference, NPSC-2014 will be held at IIT Guwahati, Guwahati, India during 18-20 December, 2014. The details about the conference can be found at http://www.iitg.ernet.in/npsc2014 . The theme of the conference is “Towards greener, smarter and reliable electricity system”, which covers several recent topics of interest in the area of electrical power engineering."

Let me know if anyone is interested to publish papers in this conference. It strongly advisable for final year students of BTech/MTech

Special Note: BTech completed students can try this even after getting seat into IITs. Lot of time is there

Reg Mobile phones

Dear All,
I would like to mention one point to all. Please keep all of your mobiles in silent mode without fail in my class. If anything is urgent, you can go out and answer the call.
I am very unhappy in sending out the people outside when they have tears in their eyes. Its not my fun at all.
I want everyone to make this habit when you are in meeting or in seminar especially. When you enter into jobs, these mobile rings will make you unprofessional especially when you are in meetings.
As a student, you may feel this is very silly point but will make you in trouble in professional life

This is my personal experience. Because, when I was in MNC, one of my company president commented in his blog, Indians still need to learn some soft skills when they are in meetings

Lets have class with fun....without scoldings

About PhD through GATE in ITs

Dear all,
Yesterday, few folks are asking me about PhD admission through GATE.
It is possible to get admission into PhD programme through GATE directly from BTech (Something similar to dual degree programme)

For example: Read the following paragraph from IIT Delhi admission notification in 2013-14 academic year

"At IIT Delhi most academic departments/centres offer M.Tech. and PhD programmes while some of them also offer an MS(R) programme. Major policy changes now permit the student to switch from one programme to another anytime after one semester of joining. For example, a candidate joining an M.Tech. programme can apply for switch to a PhD programme in the same department (or even in another eligible department) after completing 12 credits of courses with a minimum GPA of 8.0. All his/her credits, if relevant to the new programme, can be transferred and thus make his/her transfer to the new programme as a student with advanced standing. Similar flexibility exists for switching between other programmes"

However  I have seen such provisions in IITM, IISc, IITK, IITKGP as well. If anyone have long term plan to pursue PhD, you can utilize this chance so that you can save 1-2 years.

After PhD, you can start your career with teaching or R&D jobs like GE, ABB, Seimens and abroad

All the best

Believe your will power

Dear All,
Now a days I am getting emails from so many students saying that "as exam time is near by, we are loosing confidence and getting depressed"
As per my observation, you are getting very good information from your teachers which is a lot for GATE exam. First of all, trust your self and believe your will power. At this stage dont think about results. Daily revise your notes and memorize lectures. Practice all numerical examples yourself without opening notes. When your preparation is complete, try to explain to your friends who are really struggling in understanding concepts. If you discuss with your friends, your concepts will improve. Never be isolate from your friend circle and always prepare as a group. Avoid the people who will demotivate you and waste your time.

All the best

Tip: Do friendship with a person who is better than you in academics and with a person whose expenses are lower than you. You will grow day by day
Always share knowledge with your friends, but not money. Both will win in the life game
